In the car, on their way to Barkcamp, Karen and Natalie tried to do everything possible to get Max and Sidney to smile and have fun. They were telling stories and stupid jokes waiting for them to comment. Karen thought she heard a laugh come from Max but when she looked back at him, he hid his smile. She shook her head and gave up, deciding to play around finding something on the radio. When she couldn't find anything, Karen went through some CDs she brought and put in Nickleback. Natalie told her to advance it to their song and Karen did. Ever since their CD came out, this one song was perfect for her and her friends. As the song started, Karen turned up the volume and she and Natalie began to sing along.

"God I love that song" Natalie said.
"I know, kind of fits us when we go out."
"You know, the few times I've been out with all you guys, you've been pretty tamed Karen."
"Then you haven't been with us at the right time Maxwell."
"Yeah we tone it down when we have new people around us" Natalie added.
"All it is Max are four women just unwinding down their busy lives. Besides, when you guys aren't around it gives us a chance to brag about you" she said.
Max looks to Natalie then to Karen "what has she told you?"
"Sorry Max, but all alcoholic conversations are private and are never repeated."
"Don't worry bunnybear, it's all flattering."
Karen couldn't hold in her laugh "um...bunnybear?" she said looking at Sidney who started laughing.
"That name wasn't suppose to leave my house sex muffin" Max said getting back at Natalie.
"I'm so glad we have normal pet names for each other" Sidney said then kissed Karen's hand he was holding.
"You know those names do not leave this car Karen" Natalie said in a warning tone.
"I can promise they won't but after a few drinks when another personality takes over, all bets are off."
"Well I will just have to keep them quiet...all of them." They all laughed and continued on. An hour later, they reached the park and Sidney went to park the car.
"What should we do first?"
"How about horseback riding?" Karen said and the others agreed. They went to the stables and everyone got a horse they liked.
"Oh, excuse me sir" Max said getting the attention of the man in charge "will that horse be able to hold the weight of Sid's massive ass?"
Sidney looked at Karen who was obviously trying not to laugh "you think that's funny baby?"
"No...why, what, why would you ask that?" she said finally letting her giggle escape. She moved her horse beside Sidney's and leaned over to him and kissed his cheek "sorry stud."
Sidney got the horse moving "I'll remember that when you want this ass." Karen just laughed and caught up to him. The four of them got on one of the trails and slowed down, taking the scenery all in. They came to a clearing and just sat there looking at all the trees and couldn't believe how peaceful it was. They rode around for the rest of the hour and then brought the horses back.
They headed back to the car and Max took a couple bottles of water and Natalie's hand "we'll meet up with you guys in about a half and hour. We're going for a little hike."
Karen and Sidney just watched them walk away "you going to talk to me now? Or do I find something to do on my own until they come back?"
Sidney pressed Karen up against the car and kissed her passionately "I think we can find something to do together. Can you find the trail that leads to that clearing with the rocks we sat on last year?"
"Sure can." Sidney grabbed some water for them and they headed off in the direction. "Feeling better?"
"Definitely. Thank you baby for suggesting this. I think this is what Max and I needed."
They made it up to the top of the hill and saw the rocks, but saw something else "I think Max needed something else." As Karen said it, Sidney looked at the rocks and saw them having sex upagainst the rock.
"I guess Max had the same thought that I had."
"Is that why you wanted to come up here? I thought it was because we had a special moment last year."
"It wasn't the only reason baby. We would've talked...afterwards."
Karen turned and started to walk down the trail "I guess we'll just have to wait until we go swimming." Sidney smiled and joined her taking her hand as they walked down. They saw where the path veared off and they follow it. It led to a smaller clearing and a view of the lake down below. Sidney wrapped his arms around Karen and they stood there without needing any words. A few minutes later he turned her around to face him and kissed her for what felt like forever until they noticed the time and headed back down to meet Max and Natalie.
They got in the car and headed to the lake to go swimming. When Sidney pulled up, there were a lot of cars there, but they were able to head to the side and still be away from them. Karen and Natalie got the blankets put down and stripped down to their bathing suits they had on under their clothes. Sidney took Karen's hand and led her to the water, getting in and swimming out a bit to be alone. Karen wrapped her arms around Sidney's neck and legs around his hips.
"Is someone getting impatient?"
"No, I just can't touch like you can and instead of floating, you're going to hold me up."
"Oh" sounding a little dejected "so you don't want something to happen then?"
"I don't remember saying that stud, but with all these kids around is it possible?"
Sidney looked over her shoulder and saw some kids playing rather close to them "maybe not to the extent, but I can make it one sided right now" he said letting one hand reach her mound and started to rub over her. Karen looked into his eyes like she was giving him permission to go further and finish what he's starting. Sidney sneaked his hand inside her bikini bottom and inserted a couple fingers inside. "Oh god, you saw that?"
"Only for about a half a second and then we left."
"We? So Sidney was with you?" she said nervously.
"Nat calm down, if anything we saw Max's ass and that was enough for either of us. Do you realize that everytime the four of us get together, all I see is Max's naked white ass?"
"Don't get attached to it because it's all mine."
"That's fine with me, I like what's attached my man's ass. I hope I didn't offend you about the marriage talk at lunch yesterday. I know how hockey players are and Max fits that profile. It's even been documented on the internet with all these pictures of him and different girls. I don't want to see you get hurt."
"Maybe Max and I are just playing around right now and we'll see what happens at the start of next season. If we're still together great, but if he wants something else or someone else I can't hold him back if it's not me. It'll be ok Karen, all crushes hurt a little and if they didn't they would have to come up with another name for it." Karen looked at her best friend and smiled "I think I'm brave enough to go join my bunnybear in the water."
"Have fun" Karen said watching her head to the water and then closed her eyes letting the sun dry her.
Twenty minutes later, Sidney got out of the water and headed to the beach. He saw Karen lying there and leaned over her letting the water drip off of him and onto her "wake up sleeping beauty."
"I would but the water dragon is spewing all over me" she said getting up and was immediately pulled into a wet hug "I was dry you know."
"Well now you can dry with me" he said kissing her neck before leaning down and grabbing a towel.
Karen looked out to the water and saw Max and Natalie playing around before he grabbed her and kissed her "do you think that's going to last out there?"
"Who, Max and Nat?"
"Yeah. Do you think that will last for a while or that Max will dump her when the season starts next year?"
"Where is all this coming from?"
"I told Diane and Sheril about us getting married" she said seeing his look "it's fine, they won't say anything. But Sheril made the comment that we only needed to get Nat and Max together and then the four of us would be married and then I kind of made a raised eyebrow move knowing it wouldn't happen."
"Because you think Max is a player and he'll get bored with her."
"Sid, I know he's your friend and teammate and I love Max to death, you know this. But yes, I've seen how he is with women and for my friend to not get her hopes up I told her that I didn't see anything really happening between them but casual dating."
"People can change baby and Max may surprise you. You said it youself that Natalie was good for him and I think he's taken that to heart. Just leave them be and deal with it when it happens."
"You know if he does hurt her I will have to kill him."
Sidney wraps his arms around her "both Max and I are fully aware of that baby" he said then kissed her. They sat back down on the blanket and dried off. Soon Max and Natalie joined them and the got into the cooler to eat some lunch that the girls packed. After an hour of drying and talking the four of them got dressed and headed back to Pittsburgh.
When they got back to Karen's, there was a note on the door and she went to grab it, reading what it said...

Stopped by but you or Karen weren't home. We are over at Mario's and you have been invited over for dinner tonight at 7p. If we don't hear from you before 6:30p, I will give you a call. Love you,

"It's only 4:28p now, wonder what time they got in" he said looking at his watch.
"You going to call them and tell them we're home?"
"Yeah, maybe I can get an invite for Max and Nat."
"Don't worry about it man, we've got other plans" Max said smiling at Natalie and they got in his car and left after they all said goodbye.
"Well don't take to long" Karen said walking inside "I'm going for a shower and it could get awful lonely in there" she said kissing him and then headed upstairs.

Chapter 141
It was Saturday morning and Karen had called her friends on Friday to invite them out to an early lunch before the game that night. She had everything planned and they would just head to Karen's house after they ate to watch the game. She got some things done around the house and soon it was time for her to get a shower and then meet the girls at a local restaurant.
An hour later, the four friends sat at a booth secluded away from the other tables. Since it was lunch, the restaurant wasn't crowded and could accommodate Karen's request.
"So what's with the hidden away private lunch?"
"Who says it's private?"
"Come on Karen, we're all the way in the back with no one around, something is up" Diane asked suspciously.
"Ok, well I have news and I guess I wanted the privacy to share it."
"Well what is it?" Sheril asked impatiently. Karen smiled and held up her left hand "yeah, yeah...so. We've all seen your ring that Sidney bought for you."
Diane did a double take and took her hand to look closer "um Sheril, you might want to take a closer look. There's something else with it."
"Let me see" she said grabbing her hand and pulling it across the table making Karen jump out of her seat a little.
"Ow, I do use this hand."
Sheril looked at her hand and saw another ring accompanying the diamond ring "are you shittin me? Is that what I think it is?"
"Yes. Sidney asked me to marry him and I said yes. The funny part is, we got married that same night."
"When did this happen?" Diane asked quietly.
"In April."
"APRIL!" both Diane and Sheril screamed getting the few patrons to look at them. "Wait, why aren't you saying anything Nat?"
"Because I already knew."
"I didn't mean to keep it from you guys, Nat found out not too long ago. When Sid asked me it was on our anniversary. I stayed around the arena and after everyone left, we went for a midnight skate. He asked me and after I said yes, he had everything planned to do it that night. We both decided to not were our wedding bands because we wanted to wait until after the season ended to renew our vows and then let everyone know before the start of next season. Sidney knew he couldn't keep it from the guys on the team and they all knew."
"So is that how you found out Nat?"
"Sort of but it doesn't matter. I understood why she needed to keep it quiet and I could've spilled the beans but I knew she wanted to tell you guys."
"I so wanted to tell you all after it happened, but I knew you guys would understand to why I waited."
"We do understand Karen" Diane said taking her hand.
"Of course we do" Sheril added "we know what could've happened if it got out and the backlash both you and Sid would have gotten. We are more than happy for you woman."
"Thanks guys."
"So when would the wedding be?"
"He wants it to be on his birthday but it will depend when he goes home later this month if the church is available."
"So we need to keep this to ourselves for at least two months?"
"If you guys don't mind."
"Of course not. Now all we need is to get that one" pointing to Natalie "and Max to make the jump then we all would be married."
"Ya'll need to slow down on the marriage talk with me and Max."
"It'll happen, don't worry" Diane said getting an eyebrow raised from Karen as she took a drink.
"What was that look for?" Natalie asked her friend.
"What look?" Karen said trying to be nice.
"Karen don't. Do you not see Max and I together like that?"
"Nat, I just don't see Max as the marrying kind. I love him to death and you know that but he attracts every type of woman and if he settles down, it's not going to be for a long time. I don't want to see your hopes get crushed."
"I know you have my best interest at heart Kiki but I'm not ready for marriage anytime soon. If we're together long enough then maybe it would be nice but I'm fine just dating him right now."
"I hope it does work out for you guys. I'd have to shun him if he ever dumped you."
"I think we all would." The girls shared a laugh and enjoyed the rest of their lunch. They stayed around talking and drinking a little bit then headed back to Karen's house. It was a couple hours until the game started and they sat around watching all the pre-game shows. Everytime they showed Sidney or talked about him, Karen couldn't help but smile. She knew she loved him, she just didn't really realize how bad. She looked down at the wedding band and hated to take it off but didn't want to draw attention to it. Some people have caught on that she was dating him, she didn't need to give them a reason to wonder more.
It was finally game time and from start to finish, to say the girls were shocked would be an understatement. The Wings had routed the Penguins 5-0 and put a thought of fear in every Pens fan wonering if this is where the series ends. Karen didn't know what to think by the loss and wondered even more by what Sidney had to be thinking.
"I can't believe this game was so lopsided" Sheril said still shocked.
"I know. I wonder what the guys are thinking" Natalie said.
"I don't know but Sidney will be going around with this in his head all the way home."
"Wait, there's Sidney now talking to the press." Karen just watched his facial expressions more then hearing what he had to say. She knew he knew how to handle the press and answer without any emotions but she could see it was hard to keep it in. Karen went to get her phone and sent Sidney a text before his interview was over. When they cut back to the post game highlights, Karen's phone went off.

Karen shut her phone and then said goodnight to Diane and Sheril. She told them they were more than welcome to stay but they knew under the circumstances, it would be better if they left. She understood and watched her friends leave. Natalie had stayed around for another hour before heading to Max's to hopefully make him feel better.
Around 1:30a, Karen heard a car pull up and she got off the couch, looking out the window. She saw Sidney's SUV but no sign of him. She knew he was just sitting in the car and went out to see him. Karen knocked on the window and Sidney didn't look at her, just made the move to put the window down.
"It's a little more comfortable in the house but if you prefer to stay out here, I can go get you a pillow and blanket." Karen thought she saw him crack a smile and went on "of course if you come inside, you can spend the night with a naked woman."
Sidney turned his head and looked at her "but you're not naked."
"That's because there's a law against that in public. You have to come in and see it since it's for your eyes only."
"I'll be in, in a minute."
"Sid..." Karen started.
"Baby please. I just need another couple minutes."
"Ok" she said leaning in the window to kiss his cheek then walked back into the house.
A few minutes later, Sidney walked inside and went over to the couch to sit beside Karen. She reached for the remote to turn off the tv and they just sat there in silence. She didn't want to say the wrong things and waited for Sidney to start the conversation.
"I can't believe we played that badly tonight. It was like we, as a group said goodbye to the Cup for the second straight year."
"Sid, it's not over yet."
"Maybe not but it feels like it. You watched the game, what did you think?"
"I think coming off the two wins here made you guys too confident about the rest of the series and Detroit brought you guys back down to reality that it's not over yet but could be in a blink of an eye. They just got a surge of energy from their fans Sid. Tuesday night is a different game in a different arena. You proved that you CAN win in Detroit this year...you just have to do that for one game."
"What if we don't get that one last game?"
Karen turned his head to look at her and she saw the tears forming "then you and the guys need to dig deep and go out to make that happen on Tuesday. This team has been through it all this year going up and down and you guys fought to make the playoffs. Fight to keep this series alive and show the world you guys are the better team this year. Your fans already know you are."
"How do you do that?" he said almost laughing.
"Do what?"
"Be this right about everything."
"I just thought I was telling you the truth."
"Yeah you were, hence the being right part."
"Do you want me to sit here and gloat about it?"
"It's not your style. Thank you baby."
"Anytime stud. Why don't we forget this night and head up to bed. You look like you need some sleep."
"I don't want to disappoint my number 1 fan by falling asleep on her."
"Don't worry about her, she understands" she said getting up and pulling him with her "besides, she wants you to save it all for Tuesday night." Karen grabbed his hand and they headed upstairs. She got into bed and waited for Sidney to change and join her.
"If you weren't here Karen, I would be up all night picking apart the game" he said holding her close to his body.
"You're still going to do that stud, I'm just here to make it easier."
"You know me too well baby."
"Remember that for the future, now try and get some sleep." Karen curled up against him as close as she could get as Sidney tightened his grip around her. She feel asleep instantly but Sidney took a few more minutes before he could let everything go and close his eyes.
A little later, Sunday morning, Karen woke up and felt for Sidney. He wasn't beside her and she had a feeling he went to work out. The loss rattled his mind about thinking the team could really win the Cup and she knew he needed to clear his mind. Karen got up and went to get ready to spend the day with Sidney when he got back.
Two hours later, Karen heard a car pull up and saw it was Max with Natalie.
"Well finally, a hockey player who actually knows what a day off is."
"I figured instead of him sitting around contemplating what went wrong, the four of us would get together and do something fun to take their minds off the loss."
"You couldn't find something to do to take your mind off it Max?" Karen said smiling.
"We tried that last night and this morning but it's still there. Where's Sid?"
"Where do you think? I'm sure there's ice involved somewhere." They sat around talking until Sidney finally came home a half hour later.
"Hey Max, Nat. What are you guys doing here?" he said going over to give Karen a kiss and sit down beside her.
"I brought Max over for a playdate."
"Thanks but this is my only playmate" he said putting his arm around Karen.
"Someone's feeling better."
"A few hundred slap shots into the net will do that. So are we doing something today?"
"Might as well before coach puts us through a grueling practice tomorrow" Max said.
"What do you guys want to do?"
"I have an idea" Karen said getting everyone to look at her "let's go someplace that's peaceful but with lots to do."
"Where?" Sidney asked curious.
"Let's head to Barkcamp State Park. We can go swimming, hiking, maybe even go horseback riding."
"What's Barkcamp?" Max asked confused.
"It's this state park in Ohio that Karen and I would go to as kids. It's out of the way and no one should recognize you. Come on Max, let's go have some fun."
"Sure, why not."
"Sid?"
"I don't think there's any other place I'd rather go today baby. Let's get ready." Karen took Natalie upstairs so she could pick out a bathing suit to wear. Karen closed her eyes and took a deep breath before opening her eyes and looking directly into Sidney's. He kissed her forehead and told her it would be ok. He moved from infront of her and off the platform "Dave? Didn't think anyone was still around."

On Thursday, Karen went to work and Sidney had practice before tonight's game. "Did she sneak any alcohol when I went to get ready?" Karen whispered to Diane who just shook her head no. Sheril just glared at her until they both started laughing "sorry girl, but you ain't never going to rule the world...not in my lifetime at least."
They made the announcement to stand for the National Anthem as everyone in the arena stood "I'll just out live you and you'll look up and see what you're missing" she whispered.

Karen was at work the next morning and she ran into Diane during break "hey girl, didn't know you were working today?"

"Your going away from your routine Sid?" his dad asked confused.
"He's been doing it a lot this season."
"I've just changed up a few things dad, it's no big deal."
"Well I'm going to go put dinner in the oven then so we can eat a little earier." Karen walked out of the living room and Trina soon followed her.
"So what's going on?"
"I honestly don't know. My friend Natalie pointed out that he seems to be changing things around to include me in his routine."

"I think it has more to do with the team and their will to win it all this year and not so much me."
"I guess we'll see then huh?" They shared a smile as they both helped get a salad ready. A half hour later, dinner was done and they all sat down to eat.
When it was time for Sidney to head to the arena, Troy went in with him and Karen brought Trina with her a little bit later. Sidney questioned it but Karen just smiled and told him that right after the game she needed to get home and prepare her surprise for him. A while later, they headed to the arena and by the time Karen got there, Sheril and Diane were there to meet her. Karen knew it would be too hectic down by the locker room and stayed up top with her friends as Trina went down to find Troy. The game soon got underway and as Karen predicted, the Pens won 4-2. They were still down a game in the series, but knew they could come back from it.
